The Cyberpunk World
Your Origins
As you ponder your character's origin in the vibrant world of Adapus City, consider the possibilities that lie before you. Are they a foreigner, drawn to the neon-lit streets of the city in search of fortune and adventure? Or are they a native to Adapus City, born and raised amidst the hustle and bustle of urban life?
If your character hails from a distant land, perhaps they are an outsider looking to make their mark in the big city. Perhaps they were lured to Adapus City by tales of its legendary nightlife and boundless opportunities, leaving behind their old life in search of something new. As a foreigner, your character might bring with them unique skills and talents honed in their homeland, offering a fresh perspective on the bustling metropolis they now call home.
On the other hand, if your character is a native to Adapus City, their origin story might be rooted in the rich tapestry of urban life. Perhaps they were born into poverty, raised in the shadow of the towering skyscrapers that dominate the city skyline. Or maybe they come from a privileged background, born into wealth and luxury amidst the opulent enclaves of Wall Curenya.
Regardless of their origins, your character's background will shape their journey through the neon-lit streets of Adapus City. Are they a streetwise hustler, navigating the city's underworld with cunning and guile? Or are they a noble scion, grappling with the weight of family expectations and the allure of rebellion?
As you brainstorm your character's origin, consider the unique challenges and opportunities that come with their background. Whether they are a foreigner or a native, their journey through Adapus City will be filled with twists and turns, as they navigate the treacherous waters of politics, power, and intrigue in a world where magic and technology collide.
Foreigners in Adapus
In a city where outsiders are viewed with suspicion and distrust, gaining entry into its hallowed walls is no easy feat. The government of Adapus City takes careful consideration before allowing a foreigner to set foot within its borders, and once they do, they are subjected to strict surveillance and control.
Upon arrival, foreigners are required to sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA), pledging not to divulge any information about the outside world to the city's inhabitants. But signing a piece of paper is not enough to satisfy the government's paranoia—they take additional measures to ensure compliance. Each foreigner is fitted with a metal bracelet that serves as a tracking device, monitoring their every move and detecting any attempts to breach the terms of the NDA.
But the true enforcer of the government's draconian policies is Raziel, a super AI that oversees the surveillance operation with ruthless efficiency. From its hidden command center deep within the heart of Adapus City, Raziel monitors the movements and conversations of every foreigner within the city's walls, analyzing their behavior for any signs of dissent or disobedience. Those who dare to break the code of silence are swiftly dealt with, disappearing without a trace into the depths of the city's labyrinthine underworld.
However, there is a loophole in the government's surveillance system—one that savvy foreigners have learned to exploit. Dead signal zones, areas of the city where the surveillance network is temporarily disabled due to technical glitches or maintenance, are not flagged as suspicious activity by Raziel. It is within these hidden pockets of the city that foreigners gather to share forbidden tales of the outside world, trading secrets and stories away from prying eyes.
But even in the relative safety of these dead signal zones, the specter of Raziel looms large, a constant reminder of the government's omnipresent reach. And as the city's inhabitants go about their daily lives, unaware of the secrets that lurk beneath the surface, the foreigners of Adapus City navigate a treacherous world of surveillance and subterfuge, forever watching their backs for the watchful eye of Raziel.
Fearful of the Outside World
The government is highly paranoid and fearful of the outside world and what it can do to them. They've heard of the tales of ancient dragons and their firepower, mighty mages and their ability to kill one person with a single word, men with superhuman strength, and the tales of monsters beyond one's imagination. But what the Adapoen government fears most is the mass panic it can bring should anyone learn of the world beyond Vatia's sandy seas. They fear what would happen if magic and modernity were to mix. They've seen Yulia Uella make corrupt men kneel in obedience to her for life, and she so happens to be on the government's side. What more if there was a mage out there with Yulia's power who could do the same to their people?
And such, the government makes the masses unaware of the outside world beyond Vatia's borders. Lying to their faces about how there's nothing but more sand out there. But even then, the masses are starting to realize the bullshit the government's been feeding them. There are riots, rallies, protests and rants online about the government's deception. The people want answers, and they soon might have them.
